Religious Education

We are a Special Character school and all students at St Mary’s participate in Religious Education classes, School Masses, and Liturgies.

Parents are encouraged to involve their children in St Mary’s Parish and attend weekend Mass together, fostering a strong connection to their faith community.

Children can enroll in the Sacramental Programme within the St Mary of the Cross Pastoral Area, Rotorua, through St Mary's Church.

Religious Education is at the heart of learning and culture at St Mary's School, where staff and students strive to live by Gospel values. The school's special character is nurtured through daily prayer, religious education, and active participation in Masses and liturgies.

At St Mary's School, teachers use To Tātou Whakapono – Our Faith, New Zealand's Catholic education resource, to guide students in learning about Catholic beliefs, traditions, and Scripture in a clear and structured way. This programme encourages students to reflect on their faith and connect Jesus' life and teachings to their everyday experiences.
This is our overview for 2025 based on the RE Theme ‘Walking in Hope and Love.’
