Kia ora Parents/Whanau

A number of our students received their First Holy Communion at Mass last weekend. It was really a lovely occasion and our students looked stunning on their special day. We wish all these children God’s blessings on their First Holy Communion.

Opening day for our school musical, Peter Pan, is getting closer and practice times have been scheduled over the next few weeks. I invite all of you and your family and friends to come to our show. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at the school office. Tickets are $5 per person; tickets not required for toddlers sitting on adult knee or for performers. It is a great show.

There are 4 shows:
Tuesday 8th December at 1:00 pm
Tuesday 8th December at 6:30 pm
Children from Rooms: 1, 3, 5, 15, 17 and Kakano 1, 2, 3 are performing.

Wednesday 9th December at 1:00 pm
Wednesday 9th December at 6:30 pm
Children from Rooms: 2, 4, 12, 14, 16 and Kakano 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 are performing.

The main cast are performing in all four shows.

The Ahurei is on Monday. Our Tamariki are performing in this. They have been practising for a while now although Covid has meant less preparation. Our group sounds awesome. Thanks to Koro for tutoring the group and Sylvia who has been coordinating the group. I am looking forward to the performance.

We are publishing a school magazine again this year, and this will be available during the last week of this term. There will be only 100 magazines printed and it will be a great memento of 2020. Orders will be taken now with the cost for the magazine being $10.00. Orders will be taken at the office. Be quick as there will only be 100 printed.

St Mary’s have three trained swimming instructors - Kate Elvy, Lucia Watt and Tara Watt - giving year 3 and 4 students swimming and water safety lessons for free in the mornings this week. This opportunity has been made possible by the ‘Making the Difference Water Safety’ programme run by Rotorua Lakes Swim School and Swim Rotorua Swimming Club. Thanks to them.

It is the Weetbix Tryathlon this weekend. I wish all our participants well and I hope they enjoy the event.

A Chess team from our school is competing in the Australian Chess Tournament on Monday and Tuesday. Mr G has organised this for the players and it is an online competition this year. What a great experience for them. I wish them all the best too.

Some of our students have done exceptionally well in sporting and cultural activities recently. Jackson Hepi broke the record for the 100m at the Rotorua Inter-schools’ Athletics Event. He also ran well in Hamilton last weekend when he was representing the local Athletic Club. And these students received the Top Tier Award in their Dance Examinations. The award is awarded to a student who is one of the top three students in their grade in all countries APDA is taught: Jade Moller and Billy Bradley got in the top tier in their level for Contemporary Dance.

Congratulations also to these students who recently sat Speech NZ examinations.
Initial: Aanya Adlakha – Merit plus
Grade 1: Anja Van der Merwe – Honours, Alice Konyves - Honours
Grade 2: Billie Bradley – Honours Plus.
Congratulations children on your achievements.

Have a great week.

David Macmillan, Principal.

FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES:

Kia tau te rangimārie kia koutou – Peace be with you.

Our Year 6 students will be on their retreat this Thursday. This is always a very special day. Our students get to come together and spend a day reflecting on the values of our school and how they can go forward walking in the footsteps of Jesus. Also to take time to appreciate their journey together so far, at primary school before they embark on their next learning journey.

Dear Lord,
Today is laid out before us full of possibilities and so open for Your movement. Thank You for the plan You have for us today. We pray for eyes to see Your footsteps clearly, so that we may walk in Your steps. Amen
