Tokelau Language Week

Te vaiaho o te gagana Tokelau
Mālo ni,

We are up to Week 3 already. I hope you enjoyed the good weather for the long weekend.

It was awesome to hear that Charlotte Hall, a former St Mary’s student and daughter of Bernie Hall, was announced as JPC’s Head Girl for next year. We wish her all the best in her leadership role.

Last Monday we held our school Cross Country event in perfect weather. It was great to see all the parent support on the day. Thanks to Lorna Dobson and Leanne Rankin for their organisation. Thanks to all the parents who helped with marshalling and transporting our children. It was certainly a great event.

On Friday our Young Vinnies had a Loud Shirt Day supporting the Hearing Association. They raised over $200. Well done to our Young Vinnies.

The EPRO 8 team competed well on Friday and their third placing means that they now qualify for the finals this week. All the best to Xavier Sarich-Dunn, Joseph Ronayne, Dominic Spanbroek and Aaron Pepper.

Our Chess team competed in Auckland over the weekend and were placed ninth. That is an excellent result. The result put them in front of Lynmore and the local Mindplus team. Thanks Mr G for the many hours put into chess in the school and also for taking the team away to Auckland. Our chess team was Jack Zhang, Ann Joseph, Axiom de Lena, Sebastian McDonald, Alice Konyves and Yuri Ramos-Solicitous.

I have just heard that Jade Moller has won the Rotorua Primary Schools speech competition this year. Congratulations Jade, well done. This year each speaker submitted a video of their speech and these videos were judged by a member of toastmasters.

Our working bee is this Saturday (October 31st). There are a number of jobs that need to be done. The projects include painting, stripping paint off aluminium doors, building picnic tables, pruning, gardening, tiling, making props for the production, undercoating cut out Christmas trees and a general tidy up in the gardens. I’ve been amazed at the support we receive for our working bees and I would really appreciate your support with this one too please. Come along and meet other parents, enjoy a morning tea and a delicious lunch that our wonderful PTA are providing. Children are welcome also. For catering purposes please let the office know if you can assist, even if it is just for an hour or two.

May Christ inflame the hearts of all people to break through the barriers which divide them, to strengthen the bonds of mutual love, to learn to understand one another, and to pardon those who have done them wrong. Through Christ’s power and inspiration may all peoples welcome each other to their hearts as brothers and sisters, And may the peace we long for, ever flower and ever reign among us. Amen. (St John XXIII)

Director of Religious Education
