Newsletter No 23 12 August 2020

Dear Parents/Whanau

'Mary MacKillop' Day went very smoothly. The Mass was a lovely celebration. The singing was great and the children’s responses and readings were loud and clear. It was nice to be able to acknowledge and celebrate Susan Townes’ time at St Mary’s. The children also participated in Mary MacKillop activities during the day and these were well received by our children. They looked very engaged as I walked around the different activities on Friday. It was also great to farewell Kate at morning tea. Thanks for your morning tea contributions; morning tea was very tasty.

Thanks to Bernie Hall, our DRS, who co-ordinated the day.

This week we welcomed Tai Waititi back to St Mary’s. It is wonderful to have her teaching at St Mary’s as she is a very talented teacher. Tai believes that it is her faith that has brought her back to St Mary’s and she looks forward to attending Masses and Liturgies with the school as well as praying with her students. All of Tai’s children have attended St Mary’s and her youngest son is still with us.

Another talented teacher we welcome this week is Jane Trask who has taught at Rotorua Girls’ High and John Paul College. Jane has also been relieving in the kakano team. Jane has two sons at St Mary’s.

Jane is teaching a new entrant class in Kakano 8 so we also welcome to our St Mary’s family: Kayssie Cabrejas, Jason Rutor, Ayra Bharti, Jesse Neilson-Annett, Lucy Boswell, Marcus Moka-Walters, Joseph Mathis, Arya Singh and Xander Tabutol.

A reminder that we have a Teachers’ Only day on Friday 18th September. The teachers will be involved in professional development focusing on science and digital technologies. Our other Teacher only day is scheduled in Term 4 on Friday 13th November.
