Newsletter No 17 12 June 2019

Kia Ora,

Please keep Wednesday 12th June (this evening) free for our annual Matariki Cultural Dinner. It is always a great affair. It is ‘bring a plate of food for a shared dinner’ and if you could also bring a serving utensil with your dish it would be very helpful. There is always a wonderful variety of food at this great evening. We start at 5.30pm and usually finish by 7.00pm. Everyone is welcome, we had a big crowd last year. It should be an awesome night.

I was very proud of our many students who made their First Holy Communion over the weekend. It was a magnificent time and our students looked stunning on these very special days. The children have been preparing for receiving these sacraments for several months and there have been many adults from school and the parish who have been responsible for preparing the students. Thanks to them and also to the many parents who set up the dining areas for the feast after the Masses and the tidy up after.

Thank you to the parents/whanau who joined us for our Pentecost Mass. It was fantastic to see our children get up and lead the prayers. It is also great to hear our children sing at Mass.

It is the start of Matariki soon. Our Matariki Liturgy is on Thursday 20 June in the hall at 10.00am. We have lots of fun activities throughout the following week. The PTA has organised a disco on Thursday night starting at 5.30 through to 7.00pm. It is a $2 door charge and everyone is welcome to come. There will be lots of food on sale during the night.

Last Friday we had a group of gymnasts at Te Puke competing at a Gymnastic competition. These competitions are a lot of fun and our students performed particularly well. These are some of the results: our year 3 Girl flyers were placed second, Madeline Jensen 5th overall and Kaya Waititi 6th. Our Year 5 and 6 boys’ flyers team also performed well with Sahr Kortequee winning gold, Olly Atkinson silver and Kyle Hall bronze. Congratulations children. Thanks to Kelley Kemp, Shanelle McCashin and the parents who helped with transporting our gymnasts to Te Puke.

Some important dates:
Wednesday 12th June - Cultural dinner in School Hall
Thursday 13th June - Matariki Disco
Thursday 27th Showquest Competition in Tauranga
Friday 28th Feast of the Sacred Heart Mass
Friday 28th June 11.00am Junior School Cross Country at school.

David Macmillan, Principal.

FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES:

Gutentag Everyone,

Tonight we celebrate our annual cultural dinner, it will be wonderful if you are able to be there.

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; the Spirit of truth”.

Students are now learning about the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was given to live inside those who believe in Jesus, in order to produce God's character in the life of a believer. In a way that we cannot do on our own, the Holy Spirit will build into our lives love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Rather than trying to be loving, patient, kind, God asks us to rely on Him to produce these qualities in our lives. Thus Christians are told to walk in the Spirit and be filled with the Spirit.
