Newsletter No 15 03 June 2020

Dear Parents/Whanau

We have been back now for three weeks and things are starting to return to a new normal. It will be good when NZ moves to Level 1 where there will be even fewer restrictions on us.

We have received excellent feedback from you about the COVID-19 "Learning from Home" experience survey. A number of parents have also commented on the gate drop off, pick up and staggered start and end of school day. Thanks to everyone who has completed our parent survey. We have tried to make the survey quick to complete and have a $50 New World voucher draw for every 50 respondents. Our first two prizewinners were Mel Palomares and Eunice Jung who can collect their vouchers from the School Office. Further prizewinner (or two) will be announced after the survey closes at 9pm Wed 3 June (this evening).

Here is the link to the survey and it will remain open until 9pm on Wednesday 3 June.

I notice at the gate that one or two parents are a little tentative on waving goodbye to their children, but here is an observation from Sara Mines, Kakano Team Leader, “It has been such a pleasure being back at school after Lockdown. The children in Kakano have shown us how resilient children truly are and all the Kakano teachers are incredibly proud of the way the children are starting their day at school.

The children are entering the classrooms with smiles on their faces and are independently completing their morning tasks. The teachers have noted how settled the children are and the start of the day is much more productive with children engaging in all sorts of learning activities.

As parents, you need to stand back with a proud smile and know that you are doing a great job when supporting your child to enter the school on their own. When we allow children to independently complete tasks we are helping them develop skills they need later on in life.”

Sport is getting underway this weekend for some of our sporting teams:
Football: Saturday 6th June at Puarenga Park.
Others to follow are:
Miniball Monday 8th June for Year 1 and 2s and Friday 12th June for Year 3-6s
Netball Term 3
Hockey Term 3

Each code has its health and safety measures. If you have a child playing either Football and/or Miniball these have been emailed to you.

If the country moves to Level 1 next week we will be able to start having our school assemblies, singing practices together, Masses and Liturgies. I am really looking forward to this.

Parents of Year 6 students attending JPC in 2021 please read the information below setting out procedures for enrolments.

Thank you to the Adlakha family who donated bananas for each of our children to enjoy today. Please support the family at Fruit Monster on Lake Road.

Thank you also to the parents who have offered to take winter sports teams. I look forward to seeing our children in action again.

Have a great week everyone.

Kind regards
David Macmillan

FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES:

Kia tau te rangimārie kia koutou – Peace be with you.

Our RE Leaders have organised an art competition for this term. Last year the level of entries was fantastic and we had some amazing entries. So we are doing it again this year. Students have until the last week of this term to complete an entry and send into Mrs Hall R 5. Our RE leaders will then judge the entries and distribute the prizes!

CONTACT TRACING AT GAMES:
Sports organisers are using the government's iDMe contact tracing app at their venues. Anyone wanting to attend games will need to have this set up on their phone.
“iDMe lets people create their own personal QR Code on their phone with their contact information (name, address, email, phone number). They can save it to their phone home screen so it’s instantly available, even offline. Multiple personal QR Codes can be saved to a single phone, making it easy to display and provide everyone’s contact details, completely touch-free”
Go to https://www.idme.co.nz/ to set it up.
