Kia Ora, Hello Everyone, Next Thursday is our GALA DAY. Prayers please that we get a beautiful fine evening. Our Gala Day is a really awesome community night, so I encourage you all to come: invite everyone you possibly can. The Gala starts at 4.00pm and finishes at 7.00pm. Thanks to all those families who have contributed so far to our Gala. Please see our Gala Countdown requirements later in this newsletter. Of course we will accept other things up until Gala Day. We really need your support in bringing goods in for the Gala Day. We haven’t specified what day to bring things in, so we will take other items on any day. Presently we have received many donations of goods. At the moment Nachos are needed for one of the stalls. If you are able to, please send in a packet of Nachos with your child. Points to note - No fresh cream items please; cake boxes will be given out to all students for our coffee and cake stall and items will be priced by our PTA. Baby Elephant includes – children’s toys, sports gear, CD’s, DVD’s, puzzles, games, lego, books. PLEASE NO clothing, damaged or broken second hand goods. All gala contributions to be taken to your child’s class box in the hall foyer. Each item received wins 1 point towards their class; the class that receives the most points (pro-rata on number of children per class) wins a surprise lunch!!! The class that brings in the most cakes also wins a special prize. Tomorrow the 28th February we have the regional schools’ Commissioning Mass at 6.00pm in our church. Schools from Whakatane, Opotiki, Matata, Tauranga, Taupo, Tauranga, Mount Maunganui are invited to celebrate Mass with Bishop Steve. Other schools in the diocese have already had their Masses and they were all well attended by staff. The Mass is specifically for blessing the staff, students and parents in all our schools. All our students are welcome. It is important that we attend this Mass with the Bishop. There is a light supper served following Mass. Henk Gruepink from the Orange Swim School starts swimming lessons with our Year 5 & 6 students next week. This will continue for two weeks and then he will spend time with the Year 3 & 4 children. Our Year 3 to 6 students will be in the audience and we have a number of JPC students joining us for the performance. Enjoy the busy week ahead, and again, prayers for a fine day for the Gala Day. FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES Our prayers and thoughts are with the Jones and Maxwell families on the passing of Deacon Mike. He will be sadly missed. I had the opportunity to attend his funeral last week. Mike was seen as a gentle man by all and passionate about his belief in God. “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” – John 14:3 So... no one child of the Lord should fear death. Issac Fransen is a seminarian currently staying here with Father Eamon and Father Tovio, in our parish. Issac has been invited to come visit our classrooms and students to talk about his life. Issac is happy to talk to students about religious education and the themes we cover in the Catholic faith. Our school is fortunate to have this opportunity. Welcome Issac! Tomorrow we have our diocese Mass here at St Mary’s Church 6:00 pm. You are all invited to attend. We would particularly like to see some senior students at our commissioning Mass on Thursday. If you can come along, please meet Mrs Hall or Mr Macmillan, in the church foyer before Mass. Please wear your school uniform. Many thanks. Next week we begin the very important time in the liturgical year-Lent. Blessings, Bernie Hall, Director of Religious Studies. CRANKWORX The Crankworx Rotorua team wish to advise that the first leg of the Crankworx World Tour is returning to Rotorua in March 2019. This year, as part of the biking festival, there are all new opportunities for local Children aged 14 and under (as at 31st December 2019) to get involved. For those wishing to experience events first hand , the Kidsworx team have created two new children's race formats: “Challenge” events: designed with a focus on participation and fun. “Race” events; designed with the more competitively inclined in mind. Children can only choose to participate in the “Challenge” events or “Race” events, not both. This ensures that those that entrants in the participation events will not be pressured or intimidated by the more competitive focused “Racers”. All Kidsworx events are outside school hours. In addition to the riding events, there are many more opportunities for children to get amongst the action through interactive games and play in the Kidsworx Arena or free-to-access spectator events throughout the week.
