Newsletter No 7, 22 March 2017

Kia Ora,

Hello Everyone,

This week Rooms 1 and 2 are away on camp at Ruaihona Marae at Te Teko. Room 1 left on Monday and Room 2 left today. David Macmillan also joined the camp on Monday (after the Canes loss) and from what we have heard they are having a fantastic time. The children have been most enthusiastic and well-behaved. Next week Rooms 3 and 4 attend the same camp. This is certainly a wonderful experience for all concerned. We hope that the weather holds for the whole of next week.

A warm welcome to our new students, Zophia Cordera (Room 18B) and Greens George (Room 13). We hope they enjoy their learning experiences at St Mary's.

Athlene Wallbank who teaches in Room 15 has been appointed Middle School Team Leader as from the beginning of next term. She will be replacing Margot Neilsen who is leaving to take up the position of Deputy Principal at Otonga Road School.

Next week will be a busy one for the school. We have Bernie Volschenk and 'Harold' from Life Education Trust visiting our school for two weeks, starting on Monday. Each class will have two sessions, providing our children with a series of excellent health and life skills programmes.

The Middle School also have museum trips on Tuesday and Wednesday, there are swimming lessons provided by Henk Gruepink for Years 3 - 6 as well as a Liturgy on Monday.

Nine of our teachers, Margot Neilsen, Bernie Hall, Anne Cato, Karen Tabuteau, Brigette Holmes, Ruth O'Leary, Susan Nelson, Bevan James and Tai Waititi, will graduate from Mind Lab. Mind Lab is a post graduate certificate in Applied Practice (Digital and Collaborative). We currently have another three staff on the same course - Brigit Nieuwboer, Sylvia Dunkley and Sheryl Todd. Congratulations to all our teachers. Your efforts to increase your classroom skills and knowledge are certainly most appreciated.

Please remember to look at your child's class blog. Links to the class blog can be found on our school website - also remember to look at St Mary's School facebook page.

Welcome too to our new cleaner, Elmer Ersando, who started this week. He has replaced Jelish who is moving to Hamilton with his family.

Kind regards,
Leon Volschenk, Deputy Principal.

(Go South Africa in the cricket this week!)
