Newsletter No 17 17 June 2020

Dear Parents/Whanau

Standing at the gates before school I am chuffed to see our little students being extremely brave and coming onto the school grounds by themselves and making their way to their classroom. Things seem to be pretty much back to normal. We are able to come together for assemblies, singing, liturgies, sports practices and games. The football park looked glorious on Saturday with 100s of kids playing games and parents back interacting with one another. Our school was on duty on the weekend and it was great to see parents helping out with the food stall and setting up and putting away the nets and ground markers. Thank you for helping with this.

A request please - If you have any school readers at home please return them to school. We are offering an amnesty for returning the books. Please return them to your child’s teacher or drop them at the school office. There will be no questions asked.

On Friday you received a rubric form to complete, keeping in mind how your child went while learning from home during the Lockdown. PLEASE RETURN THE RUBRIC/REPORT TO YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER URGENTLY. Teachers will also complete the school part of the rubric and this information will be sent home during the first week back next term. In week 2, term 3 we will offer 3 way conferences so that we can set goals with you and your child around these for the future.

The Catholic Schools’ Office is aware that the current situation with respect to Covid 19 is unprecedented and they fully appreciate that there will be some families who might be financially impacted. If you have been financially impacted in any way and need assistance you are encouraged to contact me or contact the Diocese office directly on 07-8583710 or email dues@cdg.org.nz to discuss options for assistance.

I have received a letter from the Lakes District Health Oral Health Team. With Covid 19 the team has had to reschedule their visit to St Mary’s. The mobile clinic will visit later this year. If your child requires dental attention or a check up, an appointment can be requested with any of the clinics at any time. You can request an appointment by phoning 0800525378

Have a great week everyone!

Kind regards
David Macmillan

FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES:

Kia tau te rangimārie kia koutou – Peace be with you.

Our RE Leaders have organised an art competition for this term. Last year the level of entries was fantastic and we had some amazing entries. So we are doing it again this year. Students have until the last week of this term to complete an entry and send into Mrs Hall R 5. Our RE leaders will then judge the entries and distribute the prizes!

The Sacred Heart of Jesus:
Classes are learning about the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We will have a school Liturgy on Friday @ 9:00am in the school hall. Jesus pointing to His wounded heart reminds us to turn back to Him. His heart is wrapped in thorns to symbolise our sins that God has forgiven us, and the flames represent the pouring out of love for us.

SPECIFIC LEARNING DIFFICULTIES:

Hi, my name is Patricia and I work with children who struggle to keep up with their peers.

Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD) such as dyslexia (a learning disorder that can cause difficulties with reading, writing and spelling) and dyscalculia (a pattern of difficulties characterized by problems processing numerical information, learning arithmetic facts and performing accurate or fluent calculations). This can affect the way your child achieves at school. I can help.

I am a Speld NZ teacher and I can provide evidence-based strategies and tools that will facilitate your child's academic achievement.

If you need assistance send me an email.
