Newsletter No 16 5 June 2019

Kia Ora,

I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend. It was extra long with the teachers’ only day Friday in which our teachers joined with colleagues in our Kahui Ako (Community of Learning) in Tauranga. The teacher only day was fantastic and we enjoyed listening to the speaker talk about how play enhances the learning and development of children.

Last week was a muddly week with a strike day in the middle of it. Thank you for your support for this day. Our teachers appreciated the positive messages we received from our community.

You will have received an email letting you know the outcome of our BOT elections. We received five nominations which fill the five parent representative vacancies we had for the board, so there is no need for us to have an election. Our BOT is made up five parent reps: Heidi Symon, Rachel Shuster, Ed Judd, Chris Parnell and Bryce Smart. Four Proprietor’s reps who are co-opted on: Dirk Stahlhut, Rod Pola, Elma Ersando and Catriona Gordon. Staff Rep is Bevan James and myself as the Principal. Thanks to all of you for offering your time and energy to be part of the board.

Four of our former BOT members and another of our parents are standing for the JPC Board of Trustees. They are Jean-Paul Gaston, Paul Andrew, Heidi Symon, Catriona Gordon and Nick Beazley. I think all five of them would do a fantastic job. I wish them well in their bid for a place on the board.

On Friday at 9.00am we will be celebrating Pentecost at our school Mass. You are all very welcome to join us for this.

Our first Holy Communion for the children doing the Sacramental programme is celebrated next weekend at the Saturday 5.00pm Mass at St Michael’s and the 10.00am Mass at St Mary’s. Please keep these children in your prayers as they continue to grow in their Catholic faith. A group of our children are also singing at Mass with Gabriel’s Presence.

We received the wonderful news this week that Katherine Smith gave birth to a beautiful girl during the weekend. Congratulations to Katherine and Rich and I wish them all the best as they begin the adventure of parenthood

Kind regards,
David Macmillan, Principal.

FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES:

Buenas Tardes Everyone,
This Friday we have our Pentecost Mass. Pentecost is the Church’s birthday and we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus after his Ascension. The Holy Spirit is our advocate here on earth, sent by God to help guide us. Soon classes will start their learning focus on the Holy Spirit strand.

Many of our students will be making their Holy Communion this coming weekend. We wish them all the best and pray they continue to learn and to practice their faith.

Blessings,

BERNIE HALL,
DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES.
