Newsletter No 05 10 March 2021

Hello Everyone,

It is hard to believe we are already half way through Term One. It’s great being back at Level 1 but we still encourage you to sign in with the Covid Tracer app whenever you enter the school grounds.

Parents are once again very welcome to join us at Assemblies, Liturgies and Masses. We do realise Level 2 posed some extra challenges for some of our families - thank you for your support. We also appreciate your consideration for others in the dropoff and pickup areas - helping us ensure the safety of our students. I would like to particularly thank parents for being so sensible on the day when it rained very heavily before school, and part of the Church Carpark flooded. Must admit that some of you actually looked like you were enjoying the puddles and didn’t mind getting soaked!!

This week Room 1 and Room 4 have been on camp - staying on a Marae at Horohoro.

We look forward to having the rest of the Year 5 and 6 classes go on camp next week. The camps would not be possible without such strong parental support - thanks to all those who have, or will be, helping out. From all accounts, camp has been an amazing experience. Check out the photos on our school Facebook page - looks like the children have been having a wonderful time.

The School Gala will be held from 4-7pm on Friday 19 March. Our PTA and their band of helpers invest a huge amount of time in preparing for this annual event and we look forward to seeing you at the Gala. Please encourage your friends and wider family to support this community event and fundraiser for the school.

Thanks to those who voted for us in the People's Choice Accessible Business Awards. We were excited to be informed that we were nominated for this award by one of our parents. We will keep you updated.

Hopefully you are finding the new app useful. If any parents want help to install this app or learn a few tips and tricks please meet Anne Cato at the School Office at 9am on Friday. Bring your phone. You don’t need to have data or credit - we can put you on the school network.

A big thank you to Kay Hall who finishes with us this Friday. Kay has done an amazing job in our Library and we will miss her - she has been a passionate and highly skilled librarian. We wish her all the best in her new job in the Palmerston North Library.

God Bless,

Anne Cato,
Acting Principal.

FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES:

Kia ora everyone!

Classes are learning about the Stations of the Cross, also called the Way of the Cross.

This is a series of 14 pictures or carvings portraying events in the Passion of Christ, from his condemnation by Pontius Pilate to his entombment.

The images are usually mounted on the inside walls of a church or chapel but may also be erected in such places as cemeteries, corridors of hospitals and religious houses, or on mountainsides. The devotional exercise of visiting and praying in front of each of the 14 stations and meditating on the Passion of Christ stems from the practice of early Christian pilgrims who visited the scenes of the events in Jerusalem and walked the traditional route from the supposed location of Pilate’s house to Calvary. Tradition holds that Mary, the mother of Jesus, set up stone markers at her home outside Jerusalem to prayerfully retrace the steps of her son’s Passion, but the origin of the devotion in its present form is not clear.

The stations are a special devotion during Lent. Our school will have our Stations of the Cross this Friday at 10:00am in the Church.

Prayer during the 'YEAR OF ST JOSEPH'
(which will be prayed at the beginning or end of every Mass)

Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
To you God entrusted His only Son; in you Mary placed her trust;
With you Christ became man.
Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father, and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy, and courage, and defend us from evil.Amen.
