Newsletter No 32 23 October 2019

Kia ora,

We have had a really good, settled start to Term 4. We had an awesome assembly on Friday with our Manuka team giving some strong messages to other students about kindness, being sunsmart and following the golden rules. Thanks to the parents and whanau who joined us for the assembly.

Kelley Kemp has been putting in a huge effort with the raffle tickets for the PTA raffle. We would really appreciate you all making a big effort to sell these tickets. If you would like some more books please leave a message for Kelley at the school office or drop her an email at kelleyk@stmarysrotorua.school.nz

Our school choir sang at Glenbrae Resthome on Monday. It is great to see our children involved with the older people in our community. Thanks to Bernie Hall and Bruce Norman for taking our children to the rest home.

During the holidays, Rosa Hingston, year 6 student, was awarded the Te Arawa Rangatahi Award and also a Te Arawa Fisheries Rangatahi Taiea Award at the Te Arawa Awards evening. This a huge award and recognises the many talents Rosa has. Congratulations Rosa.

This Friday our RE Leaders are having a disco in our hall to raise money for families at Christmas. Children who want to come to this are asked to bring a gold coin.

This month is the month of the Rosary. On Thursdays, Rosary is at 9.00am and children from the Kahikatea Team will lead us this week.

We intend to have a working bee on the third Saturday after the holidays, November 2nd. There are a number of jobs that need to be done. If you are willing to help, can you please let the office staff or Michelle Strathern know. The projects include painting, playground maintenance, concreting, cleaning gutters, stripping paint off aluminium doors. This list is getting longer. I was amazed at the support we received for last year’s working bee, so I would really appreciate your support with this one too please. Come along and meet other parents, enjoy a morning tea and a delicious lunch. Children are welcome also.

Friday 15th November. Teacher Only Day. There will be no school on this day. If you need care for your child on this day you can contact Maryann Roling on 347 0709 or 0211 215599.

We encourage all of our students at St Mary’s to continue their Catholic faith journey and to consider being involved in the Sacramental programmes, focusing on Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation. There are information evenings coming up for you to find out more about the Programme. These are on the 31st October or 7th November at 7pm at St Mary’s Catholic Church. I have sent a letter home to all those children who are eligible to participate.

PLEASE NOTE;
At the briefing, dates will be given and fees of $20.00 are required to be paid.
For children who were not baptised in Rotorua, please bring a baptismal certificate.
The children are required to be 8 years old by the 1st November 2018.
