Newsletter No 26 28 August 2019

Kia Ora,

We are half-way through Term 3 now and in just over a week we will be into spring. The year is rushing by and before we know it we will be into Term 4 and heading towards summer and Christmas. What a thought!

We all had a great day last Friday with our colleagues from other Bay of Plenty Catholic Schools to hear David Wells, an international speaker, teacher, catechist and author. I certainly got much from the day.

We recently had a group of children participating in the Mandarin Speech Competition attended by over 150 students from BOP schools. Laris Chan was awarded first place in the Junior Native Speaker section. An excellent effort. Congratulations to you Laris. Thanks to Eva, our Mandarin Language Assistant, who tutored and accompanied our students to this competition.

Today we had a performance from Kaboom Percussion. It was an outstanding performance and was very much enjoyed by our children.

This Friday is Daffodil Day. Children can wear bright clothes and bring some coins for a coin trail. Also, for a coin donation, they can receive a daffodil pin and sticker. This is a great cause and well worth supporting.

Another important date on the calendar is Fathers’ Day which is this Sunday. Our marvellous PTA is selling Fathers’ Day gifts from today to Friday from the hall. Gifts can be purchased for $3.00.

This term we are participating in the Samaritan’s Purse Shoe Box Appeal. We hope to fill ten boxes. A note was sent home this week regarding what is needed. Here is some information about it: Samaritan’s Purse is a Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ. Classes have been asked to start bringing in items for the Shoe Box appeal-thank you for your support. The Appeal officials say that items for boys, especially older boys 11 - 14 are usually scarce. There is the option too for monetary donations to pay for the postage overseas. This year the boxes will go to the Philippines, PNG, Fiji, Cambodia.

I have just heard that Father Mark Field’s mother passed away in Hamilton yesterday. Father Mark was our Parish Priest a few years ago. Please keep Father Mark and his family in your prayers.

Next Friday, September 6th we have our Nativity of Mary Mass at 9.00am. You are all welcome to join us for this.

Have an enjoyable week.

Kind regards,
David Macmillan, Principal.
