Newsletter No 05, 7 March 2018.

Hello Everyone,

Another AWESOME Gala Day. Thank you, thank you all for your fantastic support. We got a great crowd despite the weather and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves at this great St Mary’s community event. Thanks to the many people and businesses who donated goods and services. We had lots of people volunteer many hours of work; it was truly a team effort. It was also fantastic to see so many JPC students helping out at the Gala.

The success of the Gala Day was due in large part to our hardworking PTA Gala team. Renee Cleaver, and Lizzy Gaston and their team - Olivia Steiner, Michelle Strathern, Heidi Symon, Shanelle McCashin, Kelley Kemp, Lynda Fox, Juanita Conder, Kate Keaney, Jan Andrews, Rebecca Ward and Rebecca Brake who have worked tirelessly co-ordinating our big day. A huge thank you to them. We took in over $20,000 on the night and with expenses taken out we should make a handsome profit. Check out the many photos on our Facebook page.

Loving God, e te Atua God of Mercy we thank you for the paschal sacrifice your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. We pray for the promotion of human dignity around the world.

FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES:

Our students represented their cultures fantastically last week! Well done.

lent display.JPG

A special mention to Room 18 for sharing their display about belonging. Room 18 have been learning about what groups they belong to, including house groups. It is fantastic to have the opportunity to visit classes and see the different displays.

Lent is an important time in the Catholic calendar. Maybe something your family could do over Lent is to visit the Church or go to a Mass. When families do this, it reinforces what the teachers and staff do here at school. Our learning and teaching is centred around our Catholic faith. Children need to see that upheld in the home as well.
In a couple of weeks we have our St Joseph’s Mass. We hope you can join us for this.

Blessings,
Bernie Hall -Director of Religious Studies

Thanks to those who have already voted - we'd love to get more than 1000 more votes this week!! Can you help us by sharing this message with extended family and friends.

"Please vote on the School-gen voting page http://www.schoolgen.co.nz/voteforyourschool/

People can vote once a day up until voting ends on 2 April. We need you to vote each day if possible.

To ensure a small school has as much chance of winning as a big school, we’ll be dividing the number of votes a school gets by its school roll. The top five schools will go forward to an independent judging panel who will decide who wins"

CATHOLICS RETURNING HOME
You are invited to attend a refresher course for Catholics wanting to return to the practice of their Catholic faith. This will run weekly at 7.00pm on Tuesday nights commencing 27 February 2018 for four weeks until 20 March. Course to be held at St Mary's Church, corner of Seddon and Ranolf Streets.

MISSING SCHOOL SANDALS:
A parent has asked that we send out a plea to check your child's school sandals. Over the past year they have had to purchase 4 pairs of sandals because their child's sandals have been misplaced. Marked Meesh, M.O. or Marisia" These shoes are a bigger size 6L Black Roman Sandals and a parent should surely be able to spot they are not their child's sandals as they are completely brand new and marked!
We have other parents in this situation over time and we ask that you be viligant and check your child's clothing on a regular basis.
It is very stressful and expensive to be in this situation.
Thank you for your co-operation.
