Newsletter No 18, 14 June 2017

Kia Ora,

Today is SUPPORT STAFF DAYin New Zealand Schools where we recognise all the fantastic work support staff do around our school. On behalf of the teaching staff at St Mary’s I want to thank our awesome support team for all they do at our school. They all often go beyond the call of duty for our children, teachers, and you as parents. They do many jobs around the school from administration, supporting children and teachers in the classrooms, running special programmes, coordinating sports, library, caretaking and cleaning. Thanks heaps to these wonderful people: Dorothy, Maggie, Margo, Michelle Rennie, Ruth, Michelle McIntyre, Kelley, Shanelle, Karen, Abbie, Courtney, Michelle Strathern, Jaime, Justine, Anna and Elmer.

I have had one of the best weeks ever. I was very proud of our 56 students who were confirmed and made their First Holy Communion over the weekend. It was a magnificent time and our students looked stunning on these very special days. Bishop Steve was very good with the children and gave them some key messages during his chat/sermon with them. The children have been preparing for receiving these sacraments for several months and there have been many adults from school and the parish who have been responsible for preparing the students. Thanks to them and also to the many parents who set up the dining areas for the feast after the Masses and the tidy up after.

On Monday night, our school, for the first time, participated in JRock and I must say I was blown away by their performance. It was very polished and the children really looked as if they were enjoying every minute of their performance. Their theme was Reduce - Re-use - Recycle. I want to acknowledge once again the awesome team behind preparing the children: Rebecca Daniels from Lakes Performing Arts (and parent), and Lilly Russell, Georgia Lovegrove, Josh McGrath, Erykha Levae and Georgia Howard from JPC. They have been awesome. Thanks to Annie Russell for the work she has done behind the scenes over the last few months and all the parents and JPC students who helped out on performance day.. THANKS EVERYONE and well done kids. You were stunning!! Our JRock students will be performing around 2.30 this coming Friday in the school hall if anyone would like to come and watch their performance.

FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES:

Sawasdee Krab/Ka!
Well done to all our children who made their Holy Communion and Confirmation Sacraments on the weekend! What a great day for you all. You should be very proud of yourselves for this milestone in your personal faith journey. We will continue to support you as you move forward in your learning of your faith. Looking around the classrooms there are some wonderful displays of God’s creation in the rooms. The students really get to express their understanding in creative ways with this strand.

Pope Francis: ..said that one of the greatest mysteries of the Christian faith is that we have a God we are taught to call ‘Father’ – a father who never leaves us and who we can call on in prayer at any moment.
