Newsletter No 14,17 May 2017

Kia Ora,

Hello Everyone,

This week is Primary Science Week. Thanks to our teacher in charge of Science, Brigit Nieuwboer and David Bach for organising activities for the week. We have been very fortunate to have three House of Science Kits delivered for our school use each week. We pay a yearly subscription of over $800 and this has been sponsored by Dog and Claudine Bradley. Thank you to you both; this is a very generous donation.

On Friday our Middle and Senior children are walking to the Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre to watch JPC’s production of “Into the Woods”. I am sure our children will certainly be entertained and I can say after watching the opening performance that the show is well worth a watch. There are performances in the evenings and tickets can be purchased through ticketec.

Our Pentecost Celebration is planned for Friday 26th May. Mass is at 9.00am and you are all welcome to join us.

Next Friday (26th May) the middle and senior school students have their cross country in the Redwoods. A separate note has been sent home regarding arrangements and you can also find the note under the newsletter tab on our website.

All our sports teams, by this weekend (fingers crossed) would have played their first game. I really encourage coaches and parents to promote positive sporting behaviour with all of our children, even when they are up against opposition teams who might not display positive behaviour. Generally our children are very good, but we have had issues with opposition teams.

We have a health survey on the go at the moment. Please participate in this. You can follow the links on our website or your child’s class blog to complete the survey. The survey closes tomorrow, 18 May.

Please keep Bernie Hall (our DRS) and her family in your prayers. Bernie’s mother passed away on Saturday and her Mum’s funeral took place today in Hamilton.

We have a teacher who requires accommodation for next term. If you know of a unit or a granny flat that might be available, please contact me.

Have a great week.

David Macmillan,

GOD ... Atua ... U-too-ah

Last week we had a staff meeting with John Coulam. John is an ex-principal and now works for the Diocese. He talked on the relevance of what we teach at Catholic Schools and our point of difference being that all we do is in the name of Christ and that we need to make that statement more often.

Blessings to You and Yours,

For those parents (and grandparents) who may be interested in becoming Catholic, during the month of May we will begin the Inquiry Period for the RCIA. 10:15 – 12noon 5 people required

Other jobs:
Finance person – someone to organise a float & oversee the money side of the BBQ, tallying up at the end of the morning – Jan Andrews has offered her time for this job.

Equipment transporter – Pick up School BBQ, trestle tables, marquee, chilli bins on Friday & transport them down to field on Saturday morning for 8:30am. Organise their return on Saturday afternoon or Monday – Paul Andrews has volunteered for this job.

Please email or text me your availability so I can organise a roster for Saturday – many hands make light work.

This is a great opportunity to fundraise for St Mary’s Football Club all money raised from the BBQ goes straight back into football at St Mary's.

As duty club we'd really appreciate your support and time to helping make this a success.
