GALA DAY TOMORROW
GALA DAY TOMORROW

4pm to 7pm

Thank you for your support!

What a busy week we are having. We were lucky with the weather yesterday and we were able to go ahead with the Swimming Sports in spite of the threat of thunder and lightning which never eventuated. The day went very well with our children participating in races and novelty events with great enthusiasm. Thanks to the parents who helped us. We do rely on your generosity of time and once again we had an awesome number of parents and grandparents there to help. Thanks also to the staff who organised the sports and those who helped on the day. Have a look at some of the photos on our facebook page and if you haven’t already, remember to like our St Mary’s page.

Our Year 5 and 6 students have started water survival skills with Henk Gruepink from the Orange Swim School. Each class will receive ten lessons. The middle school will also get the opportunity to be involved later in the term.

Gala Day has finally arrived and we do rely on you getting in behind it. This is one night when we come together as a community and also a night when we raise money for the school. Please tell everyone you can think of about our Gala Day. Our PTA has put in many hours, voluntarily, to make our Gala a success. Please come along and have a great night out.

Today is Ash Wednesday and our school led the Liturgy in the church this morning. We had a number of parishioners and parents join us for this occasion. Thank you to those who were able to make it.

On Friday a group of our students will be participating in the World Day of Prayer Liturgy at the church. It is a combined Rotorua Churches’ Liturgy organised by our Catholic Women’s League group. A number of our children will be dressed in their national dress.

Just a reminder that the school has a phone app now and they can be downloaded from the android or apple itunes store. See notes below.

Regards,
David Macmillan, Principal.

FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES

We held our Ash Wednesday Liturgy today. Ask your child about the marking on their forehead. The ashes placed on the forehead are to remind us of Christ’s death and the need to repent and turn back to God. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. Lent is 40 days of fasting and repentance prior to the celebration of Easter, it is an important time in the liturgical calendar. Students made their Lenten promises on Monday. During Lent remind them of their promises made and encourage them to ‘stay on track’.
On Friday we have our World Day of Prayer at 10:30 in the church -all welcome. We have many of our school nationalities represented at this service. Thank you to those who are able to participate.
All families are also welcome to attend this service.
