Newsletter No 31, 27 September 2017

KIA ORA,

Here we are, the last week of Term 3. Thank you for all the support you have given us over the term. I think we are extremely fortunate to have such a generous parent community. We often ask you for help and we are never let down.

Football and Miniball finished their season last weekend. Thanks to the coaches of these teams:

Tomorrow I am hosting a special morning tea for three children from each class who have been nominated by their class teacher because they have done something special during the term. Each of these children will receive, at the morning tea, a Principal’s letter which will outline why they have received the letter.

I really do encourage that all our children keep reading over the holidays. If your child is not old enough to read then it would be awesome if you could read to your child everyday. Kids love hearing their parents read to them. Holiday Reading Logs were sent home yesterday, so children can start filling in their logs today. We have awesome prizes for this time. A real summer theme with boogie boards, skim boards, flippers and snorkels with heaps of other cool prizes. Children need to bring back their reading logs in the first week of Term 4 to qualify to be in the lucky draw.. There is some fantastic stuff going on at the City Library over the holidays too. Click on this link for more information.

Thanks to our fantastic PTA who organised another excellent disco last Thursday. Thank you for supporting this event. I am sure the kids had a lot of fun.

A group of our students competed in the NZ Dance Made finals in Palmerston North last weekend. Although they weren’t placed in the competition they had a great time together. A big thanks to Shanelle McCashin for leading the group and to the many parents who also travelled with the group.

The Sacramental Programme is for young people who wish to make their First Holy Communion and Confirmation and a serious commitment to the practice of their Catholic Faith. The enrolment is at St Mary’s Catholic Church 7.00 pm, 17th October and/or 24th October. There will be a briefing on the Sacramental Programme, dates will be given and a fee of $25.00 per child is to be paid either by cheque or cash. Those who have not been baptised in Rotorua will need to bring their baptismal certificate. Those who are not baptised and would like to become Catholics are also welcome to be a part of the Sacramental Programme.

A REMINDER: Summer uniforms are to be worn after the holidays. Our uniform shop is open for you to purchase uniforms; Monday, Friday 8.30 - 9.00am and Wednesday at 2.30 - 3.00pm.

We intend to have a working bee on the second Saturday after the holidays: 28th of October. The working bee will start at 8.00am, but we would be happy to have any help. There are a number of jobs that need to be done. I would really appreciate your support with this. Children are welcome and we will have a BBQ lunch.

2017 Class Placement sheets are due back at school by tomorrow. Please return the form, in a sealed envelope addressed to the Senior Management Team, to the blue return box in the student foyer area of the School Office.

FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES:

Sawadika,
Please note that enrolment for the Sacramental programme is for children who wish to make their First Holy Communion and Confirmation and also a serious commitment to the Catholic Faith. The enrolment is at St Mary’s Church 7:00pm, 17th October and the 24 October. Your child needs to be 8 years old as of November and Baptised or willing to be, to move onto making their next Sacraments. This week some of our staff attended the colloquium in Auckland at the Sisters of St Joseph. Again this proved to be informative, reflective and inspiring. We are fortunate at our school we have these wonderful opportunities to attend these events.
Have a great term break and enjoy time and fun with your families!

Blessings,
Bernadette Hall-DRS
