Newsletter No 25, 16 August 2017

Kia Ora,

Well, we certainly had a group of excited students and parents last night. Our J-Rock Lyrical dancers won the Regional DanceNZ Made competition at the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre. They won a flash trophy and the chance to go through to the national finals. The girls participated in Hip hop, Jazz and Contemporary workshops run by dance teachers from all round New Zealand, throughout the day. Well done to Isla and Rose Bannan, Brooke Thom, Jaymie Hall, Una Filipo, Darcey Ferguson, Billy Bradley, Kelsey Henderson, Annie Nelson, Isabelle McCashin and Ngawai Wilkinson-Smith. Thanks to Shanelle McCashin and Robyn Hall for accompanying them to the dance workshops and the performance.

We celebrated 'St Mary of the Cross’ MacKillop’s Feast day last Friday. It was an excellent day and the children participated in a number of fun activities throughout the day. The Mass was very special with the children singing their little hearts out and the play around the story of Mary MacKillop performed by a group of our students was fantastic. Thank you to those parents who were able to join us for that. Later in the day, Whakaue won the Inter-House Drawing Competition. There are lots of photos of the day on our school facebook page.

Ten of our students were lucky enough to attend the Google Summit in Auckland last week. The children participated in a number of workshops and had a great time at the Summit. Thanks to Anne Cato and Bevan James for taking the group to Auckland for this

Yesterday Rooms 1 and 2 led us in the Assumption of Mary Liturgy. Thank you to those students and to Miss Nelson for this meaningful liturgy.

In between the Winter and Summer Seasons we intend to hold a working bee to fix the wooden swimming fence that borders the pool and church carpark. We also intend to replace rotten palings on the field/church border. We have managed to buy palings from Red Stag at an excellent price. Thanks to Dog and Claudine Bradley for picking the timber up from the Mill and delivering it to school.

I hope you have a great week and fingers crossed for fine weather for sport on Saturday.

Regards,
David Macmillan, Principal.

This week Rooms 1 and 2 held the Assumption Liturgy for our school. Students have been revisiting what the Assumption is and why it is significant for us. The Assumption was when Mary -the Mother of Christ was taken up body and soul into heaven. The feast of the assumption reminds us of the unique role that Mary served in the process of our salvation. Her entry into Heaven means we have hope also of eternal life.

August 15 The Feast of the Assumption

Blessed Virgin Mary, united to the victorious Christ in heaven,
In your Assumption you manifest the fullness of redemption.
Grant that we may follow your example on earth thereby imitating your Son as well
and being enabled to share your glory with Him for all eternity.
