Kia Ora,

What a fantastic day we had yesterday as Emirates New Zealand won the America’s Cup from Oracle. We certainly do well as a nation on the sporting world stage. Well done to our yachties! A great All Black win during the weekend against the Lions too.

We still have our lucky draw at the end of next week for all those fantastic All Black prizes. Children need to win raffle tickets to go in the draw and they win these tickets by spending time on Maths’ Whizz, Reading Eggs or Lexia. Lots of tickets have been given out already.

It was very sad to hear of the passing of Ryan’s dad, Wayne Maxwell. Wayne was very generous with his time, always available to help out with our Swimming, Athletic Sports and other sporting events. Please keep Karen and Ryan and the Maxwell family in your prayers. Thanks to Bevan James and parents from school who supported the Maxwell family with helping organise the reception after the funeral today.

It was also sad to hear that nineteen year old Michael Pilaar, a gifted young man with a passion for music, passed away during the week. There is a service for Michael at St Mary’s Church on Thursday at 2.00pm. The Church carpark and Seddon St parking will be full, so we are asking those parents who normally pick up their children from the church carpark to please pick them up from Lightheart St which is off Grey St. We will have staff supervising children in this area.

We had a wonderful Matariki Liturgy yesterday. Thanks to those parents who joined us for this. Other activities this week are our Cultural Dinner which is to start at 5.30pm tonight. Invitations were sent home with your child during the week. It would be great if you could join us for this. There is a Matariki Colouring Competition for Junior and Middle children. The entry forms were sent home this week and the entries will need to be back to the office by next Thursday afternoon.
Prize winners will be announced at Assembly next week. COOL PRIZES!!!

Seniors have received their entry forms for the GREAT ANNUAL CAKE/CUPCAKE Competition. (Yes there are two categories this year). The cupcakes will be judged this Friday.

A disco is planned for Thursday 6th July in our school hall. Details to follow.

This Thursday at 9.30am our Junior students have their Cross Country event at school. Parents of our junior children are invited to support their child.

Later in the day, at 1.30pm, we have a band from the Hunter Valley Grammar School performing for us in our school hall. Again, you are welcome to come along to the performance.

On Friday, Jade Moller is our ‘Principal for the Day’. Part of being the principal is that Jade can make up a rule for the day. The rule is that this Friday is Wacky Hair Day for young and old for a gold coin donation. Jade has chosen Child Cancer as the organisation the money will go to.

David Macmillan, Principal.

Our year 6 students had the opportunity last week to orientate themselves with JPC. The open night is a great way to showcase the opportunities and resources and variety available at JPC. Our students certainly looked excited about the many subjects that they will be able to experience over the next few years. Room 3 and 4 hosted a wonderful Matariki Liturgy on Tuesday. Students have been creating some neat art work and producing some wonderful stories of Matariki in classes.

This week many classes began the Jesus Strand. Have a look at the following links to know a little more about who Jesus was and is and how to teach your child to pray.

Fairplay and Code of Conduct

Parents, there have been a few issues with fairplay and the code of conduct not being adhere to by other schools/teams. It is safe to say that St Mary's are generally pretty good if not great. However parents could you please take the time to remind your child/ren of the Fairplay and Code of Conduct rules and how these rules lead to great sportmanship and great leaders.I have noted these rules below.

A Special Mention

to the some of our St Mary's kids who participated in a RATS Duathalon event. I understand there were more but these are some of the names given to me.

Well done to Imogen Blundell, Leah Feild, Kayla Fox, Lucy Gaston, Abigail Sims and Franco Gelid.
