Message from the Parish Priest

Dear Parents / Caregivers,

Congratulations on your decision to send your child to St Mary's.

St Mary's is our Catholic Parish School, set up to assist parents in the faith development of their children. This is what makes it different from a state school. The parish community recognises in addition to the faith development of each child, the Catholic school is there also to develop the physical, intellectual, moral and cultural values in the child. The Catholic school is also there to uphold the multicultural values of children from different races and peoples. St Mary's school aims at excellence in all areas and aims to develop the potential of every child to the fullest.

At your child's baptism, parents received a special blessing in which the church states, "Parents are the first teachers of their children in the ways of the faith, may they also be the best teachers by what they say and do." Our school is here to assist you in this area - You are the first teachers of faith to your children.

A crucial area for every family and every child is prayer in the home. It is therefore important that every parent ensures that each child knows the basic prayers of the Catholic faith. We also value the input of all non-Catholic parents who are always welcomed at the school.

It is important that Sunday Mass be experienced regularly by the children, so that what is taught in the classroom flows over into the home, and the parish becomes part of that faith education.

All the sacramental programmes are parish based, with parent involvement.

I look forward to seeing you, and if there is any way I am able to help, please do not hesitate to contact me.

May God bless you and your family
